Peru is a country situated on the Pacific Coast of South America. Its geography is characterized by having three climate stripes going from the north to the south, parallel to the Coast over the Pacific Ocean.

The first one is the desert Coast that has only a few productive valleys perpendicular to the Pacific Ocean and irrigated by rivers coming down from the Andean Mountain range.
The second one is the Highlands formed basically by the Andean Highlands or Puna where people still live in native communities at 4,000 m.a.s.l much as they used to do in the times of the Incas. Most of them still speak Quechua or Aymara: two languages only used by these people that still conserve the customs and knowledge of their ancestors.

At last, the third layer is the Jungle that belongs to the basin of the Amazon River, the last big lungs of our destroyed home: the Earth. It is worthy to mention that with its different climates, altitudes, rain volumes and its net of basins of water, Peru is a country that has 85% of the microclimates in the world and so, a similar percentage of the living species in our planet.

It is obvious that there is a layer between the "Altiplano" (4,000 m.a.s.l. ) and the jungle which existence as jungle starts at 600 / 700 m.a.s.l. down to the Andean Orient slope declivity that is, the part that is facing the Atlantic Ocean

This layer, called the "Cloud Forest", and the Peruvian Amazon jungle concentrate most part of the humid soils, land types, altitudes, rain falls, etc. This has given rise to the biggest biodiversity on our planet and thus a concentration of 85% of all species on teh planet.
There we can still find native communities living much the same way as on the "Altiplano" with their habits, customs and ancient traditions and knowledge where the practice of medicine is based on the use of medicinal plants thus conserving healing practices passed down from their ancestors.

In fact, before the development of modern pharmacology, using synthetic production of drugs under laboratory conditions possible, all the medicine was fundamentally based on the Homeopathic medicine.

Modernity moved nature into the huge research centres, and the natural medicine was replaced by artificial and synthetic that for some illnesses were just literally "dead ends" in the search for an effective cure.
